What is the best month to rent a car in Georgia? For most trips, late May to June and September to early October: the passes are open, the heat has not arrived or has gone, and the cars are available. But the honest answer depends on where you drive. This post goes month by month through roads, weather, prices and availability. What changes with the season, and what does not
- Daily rates change little. The base rates on the prices page apply most of the year; some cars carry a seasonal surcharge in July to September and over New Year, and the booking form shows the real price for your dates.
- Availability does. In July and August the 4x4s and minivans sell out weeks ahead; in November you can book the day before.
- Which car does. December to March the mountains want a 4x4 with winter tyres; June to September a sedan reaches almost everything paved.
- The long-rental discount. At the time of writing, rentals of 5 days or more get 5% off from 5 days and 10% off from 10 days on all cars except the Toyota Prius (flat $35), and 15% off from 5 days and 25% off from 10 days on the Mazda CX-3 and Jeep Renegade, applied automatically in the booking form for pickups until 15 December 2026, for pickups until 31 October 2026; the prices page shows the current dates.

Questions about the best month to rent a car in Georgia
Is it cheaper to rent in winter?
Often slightly. The base rates are the same, some cars add a surcharge in July to September and over New Year, and in winter you have the whole fleet to choose from.
When do the mountain passes open?
The Jvari pass to Kazbegi is reliable from May; the Ushguli road from late May; the Abano pass to Tusheti from about mid-June to mid-October. The roads that need a 4x4 post lists each.
How far ahead should I book in summer?
Three to four weeks for a 4x4 or a seven-seater in July and August; a few days for a sedan. Our fleet page shows live availability.
Is autumn really the best?
For driving, yes. Clear skies, open passes, the harvest, warm sea into October and no crowds. If you can choose one window, choose the second half of September.
