Where the Cherokee fits
- Kazbegi and Gudauri all year. The Jvari pass (2,395 m) with winter tyres and chains from December. See Tbilisi to Kazbegi by car.
- Svaneti. Mestia on asphalt and Ushguli in dry weather, where the terrain modes earn their keep.
- Kakheti and Racha. Wineries down dirt lanes, the Gombori pass, the Shaori lake road.
- Tbilisi to Batumi. 370 km through the Rikoti tunnels in comfort, 5 to 6 hours, about 35 litres of petrol.
- Juta and David Gareja in dry weather, driven with care on the last gravel stretches.
Where we suggest another car
Tusheti and Shatili are for the frame 4x4s: the Wrangler, the Pajero or a Land Cruiser. For five people, the Cherokee is four seats in comfort; the Duster carries five for $5 less.
Jeep Cherokee in Georgia: your questions
Cherokee, Renegade or Wrangler?
The Renegade is the small one, 25% off from 10 days this autumn. The Wrangler is the off-roader at $100. The Cherokee is the comfortable middle: more room than the Renegade, far quieter than the Wrangler, and the right Jeep for a long loop on mixed roads.
Cherokee or RAV4?
Same price, same seats. The RAV4 is the safe, economical choice; the Cherokee has more clearance and the terrain modes for gravel and snow. Asphalt, RAV4; mixed roads, Cherokee.
Can it reach Gudauri in winter?
Yes, with winter tyres and chains, when the pass is open. The police close it for everyone in heavy snow; check with us on the morning of the drive. Our winter guide to Gudauri has the details.
How much luggage?
Three suitcases and hand luggage. For four people with four big bags, use the roof rails or take the Highlander.
Can I take it to Armenia?
Ask us first. Cross-border trips need the $70 document option and our agreement on the car; for Armenia we usually suggest the Renegade or the CX-3.
Not sure which Jeep fits your route? Tell us the dates and the places. We will say whether the Renegade, the Cherokee or the Wrangler is the right one, and which is free on your dates. Message us on WhatsApp (+995 591 89 60 60) and we will plan a custom route with you. We suggest the right car for the roads, pickup and drop-off in different cities, and honest driving times.
So the Jeep Cherokee in Georgia is the comfortable $70 all-wheel-drive Jeep for Kazbegi, Svaneti, Racha and the long road to Batumi. For the Abano pass, step up to the Wrangler; for the lowest price, step down to the Renegade.
