Where the Vito works
- Tbilisi Airport for a group. Nine people in one van instead of three taxis, met at arrivals at any hour; the $30 airport fee is per end.
- Tbilisi to Batumi. 370 km through the Rikoti tunnels, 5 to 6 hours, about 35 litres of diesel. See Tbilisi to Batumi by car.
- Kakheti wine tours. Sighnaghi, Telavi, Tsinandali and the wineries on asphalt, with the luggage space for the cases of wine.
- Kutaisi, Borjomi, Mtskheta. Any main road in Georgia; the Gombori pass and the Rikoti tunnels are both fine.
- Gudauri and Bakuriani in good weather. Paved roads; see the winter note below.
Where it is the wrong vehicle
The Vito is rear-wheel drive and long, so no gravel passes and no snow days: Tusheti, Ushguli, Juta and the Jvari pass in a snowstorm are out. For a ski group, two Highlanders or a Highlander plus a Duster get everyone to Gudauri with all-wheel drive. Parking in the old town of Tbilisi is hard for the L3; use the paid zones.
Mercedes Vito in Georgia: your questions
Which Vito should I book?
Nine people with real luggage, the L3 at $130: it is the long body with the boot behind the last row. Nine people with hand luggage on a day trip, the $70 or $90 van is enough. Six to eight people, the Sienna at $70 is cheaper and easier to park.
How much luggage with nine people?
In the L3, nine suitcases behind the last row. In the shorter vans, about five suitcases with all nine seats used, or nine with the last row folded and seven people on board.
Can I drive it on a normal licence?
Yes. All three Vitos are nine-seat vans within the ordinary car licence category; read our driving licence page for the IDP question.
Vito with a driver?
Yes. Tell us the dates and the route and we quote the van with a driver; our car rental with driver page explains how it works.
Can I take it to Armenia?
Ask us first. Cross-border trips need the $70 document option and our agreement on the vehicle; for a group we check the right option for the route with you.
Group of nine, or more? Send us the dates, the number of people and the bags. We confirm the right Vito, or the Sprinter with a driver, and the airport pickup within minutes. Message us on WhatsApp (+995 591 89 60 60) and we will plan a custom route with you. We suggest the right car for the roads, pickup and drop-off in different cities, and honest driving times.
In short, the Mercedes Vito in Georgia is the nine-seat diesel van for airport groups, Batumi and Kakheti, from $70 to $130 a day. For snow and gravel, split the group into all-wheel-drive cars.
