This guide gives the prices with the offer applied, then matches each car to the regions of Georgia that suit it in autumn and in winter.

The booking form applies the discount automatically for any pickup until 15 December. Other cars get 5% off from 5 days and 10% off from 10 days, so the gap matters: a 10-day Renegade now costs less than a 10-day Renault Duster at the normal rate. See the full price list for every car.
The same terms as every car: insurance (CDW and TPL) and unlimited mileage included, a $20 service fee per booking, a refundable $200 cash deposit at pickup, drivers aged 22 and over, 15% paid online and the rest at pickup, free cancellation up to 48 hours before. Both cars may also go to Armenia with the $70 border document option, which you add when you book.

In short: the CX-3 is the road car with a safety margin, the Renegade is the small off-roader. Neither is a Land Cruiser, so the Abano pass to Tusheti stays off the list for both. Everything else in this post is realistic.
Where to drive the Mazda CX-3 in autumn
Autumn in Georgia means the Kakheti harvest in late September and October, golden poplars along the Alazani valley, and clear days in the lowlands until mid-November. The CX-3 is at its best on these roads:
- Kakheti wine loop. Tbilisi to Sighnaghi (110 km, 2 hours), then Telavi and back over the Gombori pass (1,620 m, fully paved). Three days of wineries, all on asphalt. Read our Kakheti by car guide.
- Mtskheta, Gori and Uplistsikhe. One easy day west of Tbilisi on the dual carriageway, with the cave town as the highlight.
- Borjomi and Bakuriani. 160 km of good road to the spa town, then the paved climb to the resort for autumn forest walks.
- Tbilisi to Batumi. 370 km through the Rikoti tunnels, 5 to 6 hours. The all-wheel drive helps in the autumn rain on the west side.
Where to drive the Mazda CX-3 in winter
From December the CX-3 wears winter tyres and stays a sensible choice below about 1,500 m. Snow in Tbilisi and Kakheti rarely lasts more than a day or two. Good winter plans for it: Tbilisi itself, the Kakheti wineries (quiet, cheap, fireplaces), Kutaisi and the canyons, and the mild Black Sea coast. Bakuriani works too, because the road is paved and ploughed, but take chains ($5 a day) for the final climb. We would not send the CX-3 over the Jvari pass to Gudauri in a snowstorm, nor to Ushguli; that is Renegade territory.
Where to drive the Jeep Renegade in autumn
Autumn is the Renegade season. The high passes are still open, the larch forests turn yellow in October, and the gravel roads are dry.
- Kazbegi and Juta. 155 km to Stepantsminda over the Jvari pass (2,395 m), then the 20 km gravel road to Juta and the Chaukhi massif. Our Tbilisi to Kazbegi guide has the stops.
- Svaneti. Mestia is paved all the way; Ushguli is 45 km of gravel that the Renegade handles in dry weather. See Mestia and Ushguli by 4x4.
- Racha. Oni, Shaori lake and the Nikortsminda church from Kutaisi, 3 hours of winding mountain road with almost no traffic in October.
- David Gareja. The last 15 km of gravel in the semi-desert are exactly what the clearance is for.
- Armenia. Dilijan, Lake Sevan and Yerevan with the $70 border documents. Tell us the dates first so we can prepare the papers.
Where to drive the Jeep Renegade in winter
With winter tyres and chains in the boot, the Renegade is our favourite small car for the ski resorts:
- Gudauri. 120 km from Tbilisi, 2 to 2.5 hours in good conditions. The police may require chains at Kvesheti, and the pass closes in heavy snow; read Tbilisi to Gudauri in winter before you set off.
- Kazbegi in winter. Stepantsminda, the Gergeti church road (often snow-packed, 4x4 only) and the quiet hotels of the off season.
- Bakuriani. Family skiing and the easier road of the two resorts.
- Mestia skiing. Hatsvali and Tetnuldi via the Zugdidi road, which stays open most of the winter. Check with us before a December trip; the road can close for a day after a storm.
Skip Ushguli, Juta and Tusheti in winter: those roads are either closed or for locals with tractors. Everything above is realistic in a Renegade with chains.
Jeep Renegade or Mazda CX-3: which one to book
- Cities, Kakheti, the coast, Bakuriani: book the Mazda CX-3. It is cheaper, uses less fuel and parks anywhere.
- Gudauri, Kazbegi, Svaneti, Racha, gravel in any season: book the Jeep Renegade. The extra $10 a day buys clearance and a bigger boot.
- Not sure, or more than four people: ask us. The 4x4 and SUV page lists the bigger cars, and the Duster is often the answer for five.
