Van Rental in Georgia: Minivans, Mercedes Vito and Buses with Driver

Travelling as a big family, a group of friends or a company team? Then van rental in Georgia beats two separate cars. It is cheaper, everyone stays together, and only one person needs to drive. This guide covers van rental in Georgia with our fleet: minivans for seven or eight, the Mercedes Vito range, and the Sprinter and coach that come with a driver. You will find seats, rates, roads and a cost example. All of these vehicles are listed with prices on our Comfort cars page.

The long Vito L3 suits groups with lots of luggage. Rates are per day, for any length of rental. Insurance and unlimited mileage are included, and a second driver is free.

Minivan or Vito?

The Sienna and the Quest drive like big cars. They have sliding doors, comfortable seats and a calm ride on the motorway. So they suit families on paved routes: Tbilisi, Kakheti, Borjomi and the coast. The Vito is a real minivan. It has more headroom, a bigger boot and a higher driving position. Therefore groups with ski bags, wine boxes or camera gear usually prefer it. The Vito also copes better with the Kazbegi road in summer.

When to book a van with a driver

Groups of more than eight need the Sprinter or the MAN coach. Both come with our driver, who knows the roads and the parking at every sight. Smaller groups also choose a driver for wine days in Kakheti, where nobody should drive after a tasting. Our car rental with driver page explains how a driven day works.

Cost example: eight friends, one week

Eight people land at Tbilisi Airport and spend a week between Tbilisi, Kazbegi and Kakheti. They take the Mercedes Vito at $80 a day. Seven days cost $560. Then the airport handover adds $30 at each end, and the service fee is $20. So the total is $640, or $80 per person for the week, before fuel. Compare that with eight seats on every day tour, and van rental in Georgia wins quickly.

See every fee on the prices page, and the full method in our post on the cost to rent a car in Georgia.

Routes that suit a van

  • Tbilisi, Mtskheta and Kakheti. Paved roads and parking at most wineries.
  • Tbilisi to Batumi. The motorway is easy in a minivan, and the seven-day Tbilisi to Batumi road trip works well for groups.
  • Kazbegi in summer. Paved to Gergeti church, with wide pull-outs on the way.
  • Borjomi and Vardzia. Paved through the gorge, with parking at both sites.

Avoid gravel mountain roads with a loaded van. Ushguli, Tusheti and the Truso valley need a real 4x4. Our list of roads that need a 4x4 shows where to switch cars.

Tips for van rental in Georgia

  • Book early for July, August and the New Year holidays. Vans for van rental in Georgia book up first in high season.
  • Ask for child seats when you book. They cost $5 a day each.
  • Park low in old towns. Tbilisi old town and Sighnaghi have narrow lanes where a van cannot turn.
  • Share the driving. The second driver is free, and a third costs $5 a day.
  • Check your licence. A standard car licence is normally enough for our eight-seat minivans; ask us if you are unsure. The bigger vehicles come with our driver anyway.

Pickup points for vans

We hand over vans at the same points as cars: Tbilisi city centre for free, Tbilisi Airport for $30, Kutaisi and Telavi for $120, and Batumi for $160 per end. Our colleague meets your flight at arrivals with a sign, at any hour.

Questions about van rental in Georgia

What is the biggest van I can drive myself?

The eight-seat Mercedes Vito, including the long L3 version. Larger buses always come with our driver.

Can a van go to Kazbegi in winter?

We do not recommend it. The pass can require a 4x4 or chains. For a winter group, take two 4x4s or the Sprinter with our driver.

Can I collect the van in one city and return it in another?

Yes. One-way rentals work for vans too. Each end pays its own handover fee.
