Guests ask us how it compares, whether it manages the mountain passes, and how much luggage fits. Here are the answers, with the roads it suits and the ones where we send a bigger car.

Where the Outlander fits
- Tbilisi to Batumi and back. 370 km each way through the Rikoti tunnels, 5 to 6 hours, where the Outlander is the most comfortable of the $65 cars. See Tbilisi to Batumi by car.
- Kakheti. Sighnaghi, Telavi, the Gombori pass (1,620 m, paved) and the dirt lanes to the smaller wineries.
- Kazbegi and Gudauri. The Jvari pass (2,395 m) in every season, with winter tyres and chains from December.
- Borjomi, Bakuriani and Vardzia. Mountain asphalt and the gravel approach to the cave city.
- Svaneti. Mestia on asphalt and Ushguli in dry weather, driven slowly.
Where we suggest another car
Tusheti and Shatili: the Outlander is a crossover, and the Abano pass is a long day of rocks. Take the Pajero or the Prado. For deep snow at low speed, the Duster with its lockable 4x4 and higher clearance is the safer pick.
Mitsubishi Outlander in Georgia: your questions
Outlander or Duster?
Same price, different character. The Duster has more clearance and a tougher lock mode for mud and snow; the Outlander is quieter, smoother and better on long asphalt days. Mountains, Duster; highway and families, Outlander.
Outlander or Forester?
The Forester has permanent all-wheel drive and more clearance, so it wins on snowy asphalt. The Outlander has the bigger boot. Both use about 12 litres per 100 km.
Can it reach Kazbegi in winter?
Yes, with winter tyres and chains, when the pass is open. The police close the Jvari pass for everyone in heavy snow; check with us on the morning of the drive. Our winter guide to Gudauri explains the Kvesheti control point.
How many bags?
Three suitcases with five people on board, and a flat floor with the rear seats down for ski bags or camping gear.
Can I take it to Armenia?
Ask us first. Cross-border trips need the $70 document option and our agreement on the car; for Armenia we usually suggest the Renegade or the CX-3.
Not sure between the Outlander, the Duster and the Forester? Tell us the route and the season. We will say which of the three fits best and which one is free on your dates. Message us on WhatsApp (+995 591 89 60 60) and we will plan a custom route with you. We suggest the right car for the roads, pickup and drop-off in different cities, and honest driving times.
So the Mitsubishi Outlander in Georgia is the comfortable $65 all-wheel-drive car for the highway, Kakheti and the Jvari pass. For rocks and deep snow, take the Duster or a Pajero.
