The same terms as every car: insurance (CDW and TPL) and unlimited mileage included, a $20 service fee per booking, a refundable $200 cash deposit at pickup, drivers aged 22 and over, 15% paid online and the rest at pickup, free cancellation up to 48 hours before. Both get 5% off from 5 days and 10% off from 10 days until 15 December: ten days come to $900 in the newer car and $675 in the older one.
Where the 4Runner fits
- Tusheti. The Abano pass (2,850 m), open roughly June to October, four to five hours of dirt road from Pshaveli. The 4Runner is a frame 4x4 with low range, so it belongs here. See Tusheti by 4x4.
- Khevsureti. Shatili over the Datvisjvari pass (2,676 m), with fords after rain.
- Juta and Truso. The gravel valleys above Kazbegi, 20 km from the paved road.
- Svaneti and Racha. Ushguli on gravel, the Zagari pass in late summer, the Shaori lake road from Kutaisi.
- Gudauri and Kazbegi in winter. The Jvari pass (2,395 m) with winter tyres and chains in the boot.
Where we suggest another car
For asphalt-only trips the 4Runner is thirsty and big for Tbilisi parking; a Duster or a RAV4 does Kakheti and the coast for less. For seven people on asphalt only, the Highlander at $70 is the quieter choice.

Which 4Runner should I book?
The 2013-2020 car for a family or for comfort on a long trip; its third row is for children or short hops. The 2004-2007 car for two to four people who want the same frame and low range for $25 less a day.
4Runner or Prado?
They are cousins. The Prado at $110 is diesel or petrol and a little more refined; the 4Runner is the American-market equivalent with a petrol V6. Pick by availability on your dates.
How much fuel does it use?
About 14 litres per 100 km on asphalt and more on passes, roughly 140 to 160 litres for a 1,000 km week. Our post on fuel prices in Georgia has the pump prices.
Is it automatic?
Yes, both are automatic, like every car in the fleet.
Can I take it to Armenia?
Ask us first. Cross-border trips need the $70 document option and our agreement on the car; for Armenia we usually suggest the Renegade or the CX-3.
