Fuel Prices in Georgia, Tolls and Parking: What a Rental Car Costs to Run (October 2026)

Fuel prices in Georgia, tolls and parking are the three running costs people ask about after the daily rate. The short answers: petrol costs about 3.65 to 3.85 GEL a litre and diesel about 4.25 GEL (August 2026 prices), there are no toll roads, and Tbilisi charges 1 to 3 GEL an hour in its paid zones. This post gives the detail. The rental costs themselves are on our car rental prices page.

Updated 9 October 2026. Prices and rules checked against our booking system on that date.

Fuel prices in Georgia in 2026

FuelPrice per litre (Aug 2026)Notes
Regular petrol (92)about 3.65 GELFine for the Prius and most sedans
Premium petrol (95)about 3.80 GELWhat we recommend for the SUVs
Super (98)about 4.25 GELNot needed for any car in our fleet
Dieselabout 4.15 to 4.35 GELOnly if your car is diesel; we tell you the fuel type at handover

At the October 2026 rate of about 2.7 GEL to the dollar, that is roughly $1.35 to $1.45 a litre for petrol. Prices move with the lari and the oil price, so the pump is the final word. The big chains (Wissol, Gulf, Socar, Rompetrol, Lukoil) are everywhere on the main roads and take cards. In the mountains and in Tusheti, fill up before you leave the valley.

What does that mean per trip? A Prius uses about 4.5 litres per 100 km, so Tbilisi to Batumi and back (about 750 km) costs around 125 GEL in fuel. A big 4x4 at 12 litres per 100 km costs nearly three times that. Our hybrid post has the full comparison.

Tolls: none

Georgia has no toll roads, no vignette and no congestion charge. The new Rikoti tunnels on the Tbilisi to Batumi motorway are free. The only road charge you may meet is at the Armenian border, where Armenia levies its own road fees for foreign cars.

Parking in Tbilisi

Tbilisi uses zonal hourly parking in the centre: Zone A costs 1 GEL an hour, Zone B 2 GEL and Zone C 3 GEL. Each car gets four free 15-minute stops a day; from the fifth stop you pay from the first minute. Pay with the official Tbilisi Parking app, at the TBC or Bank of Georgia machines, or through TBC Pay and BoG Pay online, which have English menus. The fine for not paying is 50 GEL, sent by SMS, and it doubles if unpaid after 30 days. Any fine on a rental car reaches us as the registered owner and we pass it on at face value.

Outside the zones, most of Tbilisi is free. Batumi has paid parking along the boulevard in summer; Kutaisi, Telavi and every mountain town are free. Hotels usually have a yard or a garage; ask when you book the room.

The rest of the running costs

  • Speed cameras. Fines start at 50 GEL and climb with the speed. Drive at the limit and this line is zero.
  • Car washes. 15 to 30 GEL. Return the car reasonably clean; mud from Tusheti is expected.
  • Mountain extras. Snow chains $5 a day with us; a child seat $5 a day.
  • Ferries and cable cars. None for cars. The road reaches every destination we list.

Fuel prices in Georgia: quick answers

Is fuel cheaper than in Europe?

Yes, noticeably. Petrol at about $1.40 a litre is 20 to 30 percent below most of Western Europe, and far below Turkey.

Do I return the car full?

Yes. Our policy is full to full; missing fuel is reimbursed at handover.

Can I pay for fuel by card?

At the chains, yes. Small village stations may be cash only, so carry some lari in the regions.

Are there toll roads to Batumi or Kazbegi?

No. Every road in Georgia is free to use, including the motorway and the mountain passes.

So the running costs of a rental in Georgia are fuel, the odd parking hour and nothing else. Fuel prices in Georgia are the only line that moves; the rest you control.
