The Toyota RAV4 in Georgia is the all-wheel-drive car that families ask for by name. We have two: the 2015-2019 RAV4 at $70 a day and the 2021-2024 RAV4 at $79. This post answers the questions we get about both, from Kazbegi in January to the size of the boot, with the road facts we use when we plan trips with guests.
Updated 29 October 2026. Prices and rules checked against our booking system on that date.

Where the RAV4 is the right car
- Kazbegi all year. 155 km over the Jvari pass (2,395 m). In winter the RAV4 takes the pass with winter tyres and chains, and the police let all-wheel-drive cars through at Kvesheti when they turn sedans back. Read Tbilisi to Kazbegi by car.
- Gudauri ski weekends. Four people, four pairs of skis on the roof rails, and 2 to 2.5 hours from Tbilisi.
- Svaneti. Mestia on asphalt from Zugdidi, and the Ushguli gravel road in dry weather.
- Kakheti and the coast. Anywhere a sedan goes, with the all-wheel drive as insurance against autumn rain and a surprise snow day.
- Racha and Borjomi-Bakuriani, winding mountain asphalt where a car with clearance is simply more relaxed.
Where we suggest something else
Tusheti and Shatili: the RAV4 is a crossover, not a ladder-frame 4x4, and the Abano pass is long and rough. Take the Pajero or the Prado there. For five people, the RAV4 is four seats in comfort; the Duster and the Highlander carry five and seven.
Toyota RAV4 in Georgia: your questions
Old RAV4 or new RAV4?
For $9 a day more you get the newer car, better fuel economy and more space in the back. For a week, the difference is $63. If the trip is a long loop with many hours on the road, take the 2021-2024 car; for a Kakheti weekend, the older one is fine.
Is it a real 4x4?
It is all-wheel drive: the car sends power to the rear wheels when the front ones slip. That is enough for snow, gravel and wet passes, and not for river crossings or the Abano pass.
Can I drive it to Gudauri in winter?
Yes, with the winter tyres fitted in season and chains ($5 a day) in the boot. The pass closes for everyone in heavy snow; check with us on the morning of the drive. Our winter guide to Gudauri has the details.
How much luggage?
Three suitcases and hand luggage in the boot. For four people with four big bags, use the roof rails or take the Highlander.
RAV4 or Renegade this autumn?
The Renegade is 25% off from 10 days, so for two people it is much cheaper. The RAV4 is roomier and newer. For a family of four, the RAV4; for a couple, the Renegade. Our autumn offer post has the numbers.
Can I take the RAV4 to Armenia?
Ask us first. Cross-border trips need the $70 document option and our agreement on the car; for Armenia we usually suggest the Renegade or the CX-3.
Family trip to Kazbegi, Gudauri or Svaneti? Send us the dates and the number of people. We confirm which RAV4 is free, add the chains, and suggest the loop that avoids backtracking. Message us on WhatsApp (+995 591 89 60 60) and we will plan a custom route with you. We suggest the right car for the roads, pickup and drop-off in different cities, and honest driving times.
So the Toyota RAV4 in Georgia is the family all-wheel-drive car for Kazbegi, Gudauri, Svaneti and the coast, at $70 or $79 a day. Keep it off the Abano pass, and it will do everything else.
